Croatian campsites have recorded nearly 21.5 million overnight stays so far this year, which is more than last year, and there has been a growing interest in campsites in continental Croatia, which have seen a 3.2% rise in overnight stays, the 17th Camping Congress said in Vodice on Wednesday.
The congress, organised by the Croatian Camping Association (KUH), brought together over 350 participants. It said that the excellent figures are the result of continued investment in the camping sector, which has also been recognised by tourists.
The largest annual increases in visits were generated by tourists from Hungary (+19%), Poland (+9%), Switzerland and Croatia (both 6%).
"Thanks to intense investment, Croatian campsites are among the best in Europe, and some of them operate all year round. We are confident that camping can be the leader in sustainable, year-round tourism," KUH director Adriano Palman said.
