Tourism and Sports Minister Nikolina Brnjac said on Saturday that investing in sport is very important and that more than HRK 200 million is envisaged for sport infrastructure of national importance in the budgets for 2024 and 2025.
The success of the national football team at the 2022 FIFA World Cup as well as of Croatian athletes in general is an invaluable kind of promotion for the country, Brnjac told reporters on the margins of a session of her HDZ party's National Committee.
The state considers this a matter of great importance and since the end of 2018 it has been promoting big sport events with more than HRK 30 million, for the sake of promoting Croatia as a country of great athletes and great sport successes, she said, recalling that investments by the state in that segment amounted to around HRK 215 million in 2016 and now amount to more than HRK 500 million, with €70 million envisaged for 2023.
The minister said that budget funds for sport facilities of national interest in 2024 and 2025 would amount to more than HRK 200 million, calling on local government units to prepare project documentation next year and apply with their projects, to be financed by the Tourism and Sports Ministry.
