The symbol of sustainability of Croatian tourism
The symbol of tourism sustainability of the Republic of Croatia is based on the combination of different natural elements that create a distinct and integral visual identity of the commitment to development of sustainable tourism.
The form of the symbol depicts tree rings, i.e., the harmony and unity of blue and green Croatia in sustainable tourism.
This visual identity sends a clear message that the principles of preserving the environment, nature and climate are being followed, and obliges the stakeholders in tourism to continue contributing to sustainable practices and activities.
About sustainable tourism
Sustainable development is the “development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs” (
Brundtland Report, 1987).
Sustainable tourism is tourism that takes full account of its current and future economic, social and environmental impacts, addressing the needs of visitors, the industry, the environment and host communities.
Considering the ongoing global
digital transition and accelerated technological development, a facilitated sustainable management of tourism can be expected, and it is also likely that there will be a successful implementation of
innovations in the entire
tourism ecosystem.
In addition, a stronger synergy between tourism and activities of other sectors, such as agriculture, transport, construction, energy or health, and also with industries such as food or digital cultural and creative industries, is to be expected. This will multiply positive results, facilitate the
green and digital transition of tourism, and ensure greater resistance of tourism at all levels.
It should be emphasized that common understanding and contribution of each individual is crucial. Therefore, raising awareness, educating and informing stakeholders and the general public is extremely important in order to achieve a long-term sustainable development of overall tourism services and activities.
