Government supports WRC Croatia Rally with €1m

The World Rally Championship will be held for the second time in Croatia this year, and a part of the route running through Karlovac County has been tried by Tourism and Sport Minister Nikolina Brnjac in a test drive with Irish rally driver Craig Breen.

"The Croatian government has recognised the importance and value of this competition, which is covered by over 250 television stations and followed by around 836 million people worldwide, and has co-funded the WRC with HRK 7.5 million (€1m). Thanks to this support and the hard-working organisers, Croatia has been included in the World Championship programme for the next two or three years," Brnjac said on Tuesday.

Images of attractive locations from as many as five Croatian counties will again portray Croatia as a sports and tourism leader, she added.

The WRC Croatia Rally takes place from 21 to 24 April in five counties - Zagreb, Karlovac, Krapina-Zagorje, Primorje-Gorski Kotar and Varaždin. Sixty-six crews from 26 countries from five continents, including eight crews from Croatia, will participate. Both the start and the finish line will be located in Zagreb.
