ECTAA: Croatia among leaders for package travel

Croatia is a recommended travel destination for 2021 of the umbrella organisation of European travel agencies ECTAA, and the measures and protocols it is implementing show that it is one of the leaders this year for package travel, ECTAA president Pawel Niewiadomski said in Zagreb on Friday.

Niewiadomski has arrived in Zagreb along with about 15 presidents of national associations of travel agencies from the EU for ECTAA's semi-annual meeting organised in cooperation with the Croatian Chamber of Commerce (HGK) and the Croatian association of travel agencies UHPA.

Speaking at a press conference, Niewiadomski said that Croatia took a very practical approach to setting up and implementing measures to ensure the functioning of the tourism industry despite the coronavirus pandemic.

Croatia was the first EU country to make it possible for people with COVID certificates to enter the country. Such certificates are expected to be recognised at EU level as of July to facilitate travel and give tourism a new chance in the crisis, he said.

Niewiadomski said that Croatia was well prepared for this year's tourist season, adding that he hoped it would be successful.

The ECTAA meeting focused on the use of the EU digital COVID certificate, which is expected to mark resumption of travel and a long-term recovery of the travel and tourism sector.

A recent survey has shown that the COVID certificate and vaccination increase travellers' self-confidence. About 70 percent of respondents said they were planning on travelling in the next six months and 51 percent of them said they wanted to travel in Europe.
