The annual international conference of the American Society of Travel Advisors "ASTA Destination Expo" is for the first time taking place in Croatia, in Dubrovnik. It has brought together 150 American travel agents who will be exploring the landmarks of Dubrovnik and Croatia until the end of June.
ASTA president Zane Kerby told reporters that the aim of the conference is to ensure the greater interest of Americans in Croatia, which had been visited by over 650,000 Americans in pre-pandemic 2019.
It is very important that Croatia has remained open to Americans, which is why they are the most numerous guests in Dubrovnik today, he said and added that Americans are showing a great interest in Croatia also because it is a safe destination.
The director of the Croatian Tourism Board, Kristjan Staničić, said that the ASTA conference and the the growing tourism results so far confirm that Croatia is the safest Mediterranean country.
"In the weeks ahead we expect more arrivals from the most important European markets as well as from the US, which is our most important remote market. We have stepped up promotional activities and success depends on us alone. I believe this year's season will be better than last year's," Staničić said.
ASTA has chosen Croatia as the best international travel destination in pandemic 2020.
