The Social Council for Tourism (SVT) considers that it is essential to continue with government job-keeping support in tourism from January to April next year and that that should be defined by mid-December according to SVT demands sent to the Labour Ministry on Thursday.
The SVT comprises representatives of unions and hotel and tourism companies in the Croatian Employers' Association. The common stance adopted at a meeting on Wednesday is that it is essential to continue with job-keeping support in tourism until April next year, the SVT said in a press release.
SVT president Eduard Andric, who is also president of the STUH tourism and services union, said that the continuation of job-keeping support is essential and details need to be defined no later than mid-December.
In its letter to the Labour Ministry, the SV notes that it has been proven so far that the government's measures and support were important to relieve the consequences of the coronavirus crisis and in particular to save jobs in tourism.
The letter adds that the government's measures provided support to save jobs but that those measures need to be continued because the negative impact of the coronavirus will continue through to next year.
"Throughout this entire time we have stressed the importance of long term measures and the continuation of job-keeping measures until the spring in order to uphold employment and retain workers, and to be ready for the next tourism season. Hence the Social Council for Tourism and our members welcome the government's announcement that it will continue with its job-keeping measures into 2021 and that state budget funds and EU funds are foreseen for that," Andric underlined.
