Agreements inked to cofinance construction and reconstruction of sports venues

A total of 23 agreements were signed in the Ministry of Tourism and Sports on Monday on the cofinancing of the construction, repairs and equipping of sports venues in 2020 with a total value of HRK 9.68 million.

The agreements were signed by Minister Nikolina Brnjac and mayors and county prefects whose applications were approved following a public tender.

Minister Brnjac said that this year funds had been secured for sports infrastructure despite all the challenges that 2020 has brought, underscoring that in its past term the government recognised the importance of investing in sports infrastructure.

In the past three years the government has financed the construction or reconstruction of 25 sports venues with a total value of HRK 31 million and the first large project was the construction of the track and field grounds in Knin in 2018 with the first oval track in Sibenik-Knin County overall.

"Thanks to that, today with pride and a big smile of satisfaction we can see the first golden successes that our young athletes like Marko Ceko are achieving.  He decided to remain in Knin even though he has been offered to go to America because, as he himself has often said, he has all the conditions he needs at home. And that is the greatest reward for us all," Minister Brnjac said and added that the success of excellent athletes is the icing on the cake but also, these venues are open to everyone.

Projects that will be cofinanced in 2020 are located all over Croatia. We will work on the construction, reconstruction and repairs to outdoor athletic venues including football pitches and tennis courts, track and field venues, and multi-purpose playgrounds while part of the funds will be used for the construction, reconstruction and equipping of sports halls, said Brnjac. (Hina/FaH)
