A joint Croatian-Serbian project designed to develop innovative and integrated tourism products and promote regional food tourism by creating a joint brand - Eat Pannonia - through the establishment of gastronomic centres, was presented in the eastern Croatian town of Vinkovci on Thursday.
The project, entitled Pannonia Gourmet, will be implemented over a period of two years in Vinkovci and Vrdnik in Vojvodina, Serbia. One of its goals is the establishment of gourmet academies in both towns.
The head of the Vinkovci-based Agency for Development and Investments, Marina Hodak Domacinovic, said the project is valued at €1.4 million and 65% of it is being financed by the IPA II programme.
Gourmet tourism training for young cooks will be organised in Vinkovci and Vrdnik.
The plan is also to prepare a gastronomic map of the cross-border region and in that way promote regional tourism.
Vinkovci Mayor Ivan Bosancic said that the aim is to promote and preserve local cuisine from oblivion and teach young people how to prepare traditional meals.
"We will upgrade and connect the project with other content like educational paths in the Kanovci forest" in the area, said Bosancic, assessing the project as being crucial for developing Vinkovci's tourism potential.
The project was proposed by Educons University from Sremska Kamenica (Vojvodina), and partners in the project are the City of Vinkovci, VIA d.o.o. and Irig Municipality's tourism board.
Vladica Vojinovic of Educons University said authentic recipes will be collected as part of the project and will be kept in and promoted by gastronomic centres in Vrdnik and Vinkovci. (Hina/FaH)
