The Primorje-Gorski Kotar County plans to significantly enhance its cultural tourism by 2021, owing to the project "The routes of the Frankopans", designed to revitalise 20 buildings that were owned or are connected with that Croatian noble family and that are presented in a photography monograph launched in Zagreb on Tuesday.
The project "The Routes of the Frankopans", promoting the heritage of the Frankopan family, was launched by Primorje-Gorski Kotar County in 2005 with the aim of restoring, protecting and ensuring the sustainable use of the family's tangible and non-tangible heritage.
The project covers 17 castles and three sacral buildings located in the area from Krk via Vinodol to Gorski Kotar.
The project has three stages, and its total value is HRK 61 million, of which HRK 47.3 million are EU grants.
Speaking about the last year of the project implementation, county head Zlatko Komadina said that this was the biggest cultural project in the county, designed to enhance the Kvarner region's cultural tourism.
"This project is also a contribution by Primorje-Gorski Kotar County to the project Rijeka 2020 - the European Capital of Culture, which gives the project a local touch," Komadina said at the launch of the monograph.
The author of the photography monograph is Velid Djekic, who said that he was impressed by the large number of areas of human activity where the Frankopans left their mark. (Hina)
