Eleven percent more tourists in Krapina-Zagorje County in 2019

Krapina-Zagorje County was visited by 176,460 tourists in 2019, which is 11% more than the year before, and there were 373,000 overnight stays, which is 7% more, it was said on Monday at a press conference in Donja Stubica.

Zagorje had 3,238 registered beds in 2019, which is a 7% increase on the year.

The director of the Krapina-Zagorje County Tourism Board, Sanja Skrinjar, said that domestic tourists had accounted for 50.5% of arrivals and 53% of overnight stays.

"Slovenia remains our traditional and most important market, followed by Germany, Poland, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Israel and Austria. Out of the total number of visitors, domestic and foreign, tourists from Slovenia accounted for 14.53%, those from Germany for 6.25%, while those from Poland accounted for 5.76%," said Skrinjar.

Among domestic visitors to Krapina-Zagorje County, those from Zagreb top the list with 24%.

The average stay is 2.11 days, while the highest number of visitors, more than 70%, planned their holiday individually.

Skrinjar presented comparative tourist indicators for 2013 and 2019. In that period the number of arrivals increased by 146%, from 71,000 per year to 176,000. The number of overnight stays increased by 131%, from 161,000 to 373,000. Accommodation capacity increased by 54%.

County prefect Zeljko Kolar has underscored that those numbers strengthen the position of Krapina-Zagorje County as the objectively strongest continental destination in Croatia, adding that the county's tourism master plan envisages around a million overnight stays for 2025.
