Croatian companies and organisations specialising in nautical tourism, shipbuilding and related activities are satisfied with their presentations at this year's Dusseldorf BOOT boat show, which is taking place in this western German city from 18 to 26 January, the Croatian Chamber of Commerce (HGK) said on Tuesday.
The BOOT show is the largest European nautical fair, where over 2,000 exhibitors from 74 countries are showcasing their products and services this year, including 42 from Croatia. The Croatian companies are exhibiting either on their own or are sharing the stand of the Croatian Tourism Board, such as Ilirija Marina Kornati, Ultra Sailing, Simuni campsite, Angelina Yachtcharter and Bi Village Fazana.
"All the exhibitors are satisfied with their presentations and most of them have closed new deals," the HGK said.
Ivan Soza, the president of the Sibenik-Knin County Chamber of Commerce, said: "Nautical tourism is one of the key segments of the Croatian tourism industry, with boaters spending 126 euro a day on average, which is more than other tourists who spend about 79 euro."
The HGK said that Croatia has over 4,500 charter vessels, 140 marinas and about 17,000 berths, adding that charter boaters spent about HRK 4.8 billion in 2019 and about one third of this amount went on other forms of tourism, such as culture, local cuisine and wines.
Data from the eVisitor and eCrew systems show that 538,000 boating tourists visited Croatia in 2019, generating 3.5 million overnight stays, which are increases of 11% and 12% respectively compared with 2018.
The largest number of overnight stays in the nautical charter sector were recorded in Split-Dalmatia, Zadar and Sibenik-Knin counties, and the largest number of boating tourists came from Germany.
