During Advent and the New Year holidays Zagreb saw a 12% increase in tourist visits compared to the same period of 2018, and the number of overnight stays rose by 11%, which is more than expected, the Zagreb Tourism Board (TZGZ) said.
In the period from 29 November 2019 to 7 January 2020, 161,000 tourists visited Zagreb and they made 309,000 overnight stays.
There were 107,300 foreign visitors, 10% more than in 2018, and they accounted for 211,000 overnight stays, up 9%. The most numerous were visitors from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Italy, Austria, Slovenia and Germany.
The number of domestic tourists rose as well, by 15% or close to 54,000, and they made 98,000 overnight stays, a 15% increase.
TZGZ director Martina Bienenfeld said that she was also satisfied with the results for the entire last year, which saw close to 1.5 million visits, 4% more than in 2018, and 2.6 million overnight stays, an increase of 5%.
