The bill on unappraised construction land will open the door to significant investments in tourism, it was said at a conference on the investment potential of land for tourism purposes, held in Funtana near the northern Adriatic resort of Porec on Monday. "With the entry into force of the new law on land for tourism purposes, which has been put to public consultation, anyone running a camping site will have a legal lease on the site and the price of the lease on the land will be known.
The law will also regulate who gets the money from it," State Assets Minister Goran Maric said, adding that local self-government units would earn more from it as well.
Speaking of concrete land area, Maric said that camping sites covered more than 14.5 million square metres and that there were 10 million square metres of hotel land.
"In Croatia there are 77 officially registered camping sites with a total area of 14.5 million square metres that were subject to transformation of socially-owned companies and whose facilities have been appraised, while the land under and around those facilities has not been appraised. That land is worth around six billion kuna," Maric said.
Tourism Minister Gari Cappelli said that the new law on unappraised construction land would bring great benefits for the tourism sector.
"It will enable investments worth between 2.5 and 3 billion euros and help create new, quality jobs," he said.
Croatian Tourism Association head Veljko Ostojic said that the tourist sector was very pleased with the state's intention to finally resolve the issue of unappraised construction land as it constituted great investment potential and would secure stable revenues for the central and local government.
