Revenue generated by foreign tourists in 2018 exceeded EUR 10 billion for the first time, reaching almost EUR 10.1 billion, up 6.4% on the year, the Tourism Ministry said on Friday, citing central bank (HNB) figures. According to the HNB, foreign tourists generated nearly EUR 852 million in the last quarter of 2018, up 5.6% on the year.
Commenting on the figures, Minister Gari Cappelli said that after last year's revenue increase, this year too has begun with growth in tourism turnover.
This is a prerequisite for increasing competitiveness and generating even higher revenues on the annual level, encouraging the entire economy, he added.
The ministry said that according to the Tourism Satellite Account for 2016, domestic and foreign tourist consumption reached EUR 10.4 billion that year. (Hina)
