Croatia among top five travel destinations on US market

Croatia is among the top five travel destinations on the US market at this year's New York Times Travel Show, which took place from January 25 to 27, the chairman of the Croatian Tourism Board  (HTZ), Kristjan Stanicic, said. The show attracted over 560 exhibitors, including 170 representatives of national tourism boards from around the world, and over 30,000 potential travellers and representatives of the tourism sector. Among them were the tourism boards of the City of Zagreb and the Counties of Zadar, Split-Dalmatia and Dubrovnik-Neretva.

"On the American market, Croatia is among the top five emerging destinations, as confirmed by a strong rise in tourist turnover from the United States in the last few years. The information we have received from our partners suggests another excellent year. Certain projections for this year indicate an increase in tourist turnover from the US of 15 to 20 percent," Stanicic said after visiting the Croatian stand at the New York show.

He said that last year US tourists generated over 580,000 arrivals and 1.6 million bed-nights in Croatia, up 22 percent in arrivals and 18 percent in bed-nights from 2017.

During his visit to New York, Stanicic met with the CEO of the US Tour Operator Association, Terry Dale, and executives of travel agencies such as Virtuoso and Signature Travel Network. The travel show was also visited by Croatia's Consul in New York, Lidija Babic. (Hina)
