More and more Chinese tourists are coming to Croatia and they are in fifth place for the number of visits to Zagreb. This summer, two Chinese policemen will be patrolling the streets of Zagreb with their Croatian colleagues to provide assistance to Chinese visitors. This is the first time the City of Zagreb has joined the Interior Ministry's "Safe Tourism Season" project.
To date, 620 foreign police officers have been deployed to the coast to assist tourists from their countries of origin. Last year alone, there were 72 foreign police officers in Croatia.
The two Chinese police officers, who will be wearing their official uniforms, will remain in Zagreb until August 15, Zagreb police chief Marko Rasic explained.
Rasic expressed hope that the project, which is being implemented in Zagreb for the first time, will produce good results just as it has along the coast. He added that Chinese tourists will probably feel safer if they see that their police officers are here to assist them.
The security situation in Zagreb is at a high level, as evidenced by data indicating that the crime rate is falling and a high percentage of cases are being resolved, said Rasic.
The head of the Croatian Tourism Board office in Zagreb, Martina Bienenfeld, said that Zagreb had become a serious tourist destination over the past few years.
The number of Chinese tourists is constantly growing. In 2017 the number of their arrivals and bed nights increased by 30%. In the first six months of this year, the number of their arrivals increased by 36% and a 25% increase was recorded in their overnight stays.
All in all, there are six Chinese police officers stationed around the country, two in Zagreb, two in Lika-Senj County and two in Dubrovnik-Neretva County. (Hina)
