Readers of of the British Guardian and Observer newspapers put Croatia on the third place among their most favourite European destinations.
In the category of the Favourite European country "Switzerland hangs on to the top spot for the second year, while Croatia jumps from number 10 to number three," the newspapers reported . The top five are, thus, Switzerland, Sweden, Croatia. Austria and Italy.
This information was released by the Croatian National Tourist Board (HTZ) last Tuesday.
According to reports on the web sites of the above mentioned newspapers, some 17,000 readers have taken part in the annual survey conducted by those British papers.
Winners in different categories were awarded with "Guardian, Observer and guardian.co.uk Travel Awards 2008".
The award-giving ceremony was held in Fes, Morocco, on 12 October with some 100 representatives of the tourist trade from the entire world and reporters of Guardian and Observer.
According to the results of questionnaires which 17,000 readers returned in the two newspapers' 22nd annual survey, in the category labelled "Favourite long-haul country", New Zealand, Peru, Cambodia, Japan and Vietnam were this year's top five countries.
The "Favourite overseas city" category is topped by Sydney, Krakow, San Francisco, Singapore and Vancouver. (Hina)
