"They have all met the demanding criteria for certification and I believe that this will be beneficial, not just because it will bring in more guests from markets where this has long been applied like in Scandinavia and other places but also because it will increase their competitiveness and income," UPUHH director Iva Bahunek said.

Recalling that UPUHH had conducted similar certification for hotels, Bahunek noted that this business with spas was the continuation of the "Green Business in Hospitality" project that UPUHH launched in 2012 with the aim of defining criteria and introducing so-called green business operation in hotels to raise the competitiveness of Croatian tourism.

To date, 42 hotels in Croatia have been awarded with Sustainable Hotel certificates and last year we launched the certification of spas, which was aimed at introducing green business in spas by the end of last year, Bahunek underscored.

She added that the hotel industry had in 1990 introduced the aspect of green business practise. (Hina)
