Telašćica Nature Park, Zagreb County, and Lika have been awarded global sustainability certificates at the International Tourism Exchange (ITB Berlin) for their sustainable tourism management practices, preservation of natural, cultural, and social values, according to reports from these institutions.

The "Green Destination" sustainability certificates are among the world's highest accolades for sustainable tourism management. They are awarded to those who meet demanding criteria for improving destinations and tourism service providers based on four components of sustainable development - social, environmental, economic, and cultural.

These certificates were presented at this year's ITB Berlin fair during an evening ceremony on Thursday, March 6th. Among the recipients were three Croatian destinations, with Telašćica receiving the silver award, while Zagreb County and Lika received bronze accolades.

Telašćica - First sustainable nature park in Croatia to receive silver recognition

With the "Green Destinations" silver award, Telašćica becomes the first certified nature park in Croatia, affirming the destination's efforts in sustainable tourism management.

"This is a testament to our long-standing efforts to preserve the natural beauty of Telašćica and promote sustainable tourism. The silver designation is proof that we are on the right path, much like Plitvice Lakes, which became the first Croatian national park to receive this recognition. We are proud that Telašćica is the first, and currently the only, nature park in Croatia with such a certificate," said Krešimir Rašan, the director of the Telašćica Nature Park Public Institution.

This also contributes to promoting Dugi Otok as a sustainable tourism destination, focusing on the preservation of natural and cultural resources. According to the institution, the Green Destinations program, supported by the UN and the Global Sustainable Tourism Council, awards tourism destinations bronze, silver, gold, or platinum labels based on the number of points accumulated during the certification process.

Zagreb County and Lika Receive Bronze Awards

The Zagreb County Tourist Board received the bronze award, marking its place on the map of global "Green Destinations," alongside over 500 destinations certified under this internationally recognized model.
